Iranian Immigration to Canda the first half of 2020

The Ranking for the first six months of 2020 for Iranian immigrants to Canada shows that Iran’s ranking among the top 10 countries for immigration to Canada has declined. With the outbreak of the COVID-19, the number of Iranian applicants who want to immigrate to Canada has dropped dramatically. In March 2020, which is the starting time of pandemic in Iran , only 210 Iranians who have the immigration applicantion were able to obtain permanent residency in Canada.

Interestingly, in the same period in early 2020, the ranking of Middle Eastern countries has declined, and instead Britain has sent more immigrants to Canada and improved its ranking in the ranking table of immigrants to Canada compared to Middle Eastern countries.

The top 10 immigrant countries to Canada in 2019 indicate that India is ranked as the top immigrant with 85,585. China ranks second with 30,260, far behind India. Therefore, most immigrants to Canada are from these two countries. Iran is ranked 10th with 6,055 immigrant applicants to Canada.

According to the Top 10 countries Immigrant to Canada, by 2019 Canada has welcomed 341,000 Canadian immigrant applicants. Of these, India accounts for 25 percent of all newcomers. China accounts for about 9 percent of all newcomers.
