Alberta Strategic Recruitment

Under the Strategic Recruitment Stream of Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), applicants whose skills are in demand in Alberta may be able to apply without needing an employer to support their application.

Eligibility Criteria

Compulsory and Optional Trades Category

These criteria apply to all supervisors, foremen and tradespeople working in a compulsory or optional trade. To be eligible in this category, the applicant must:

  • Have a valid Alberta Qualification Certificate in a compulsory or optional trade, or a valid Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) Recognized Trade Certificate in a compulsory or optional trade.
  • Be residing in Alberta at the time of application with a valid work permit to work in Alberta in the certified trade.
  • Be currently working for an Alberta Employer in the trade OR have previously worked in the trade with an Alberta Employer for a minimum of six months in the past two years.
  • Meet the language requirements for the occupation.

Engineering Occupations Category

To be eligible in this category, the applicant must:

  • Be currently residing in Alberta.
  • Have related education/training and experience as an engineer, designer or drafter.
  • Be currently working or have worked within the last two years in Alberta either directly or on contract for an Alberta Employer.
  • Be working in an occupation in Alberta in the AINP Strategic Recruitment Stream Engineering Occupations List .
  • For certain engineering occupations, have registered with or have a “Letter of No Objection” from the Association of Professional Engineers

Post-Graduate Worker Category

To be eligible in this category, the applicant must:

  • Be working full-time in Alberta, for an Alberta employer in an occupation in Skill level A, B, C or 0 whic is not in the list of ineligible occupations.
  • Have obtained a certificate, diploma, degree of at least one year, or have completed a graduate level program from an approved Alberta post-secondary institution..
  • Have a current and valid Post-Graduation Work Permit.
  • Meet the language requirements for the occupation.

The Process

  • Step 1:

    Submission of a complete application to AINP.

    For Compulsory and Optional Trades Category applicants must have an Alberta Recognized Trade Certificate or obtain Alberta Qualification Certificate.

  • Step 2:

    Following a thorough assessment, the AINP nominates successful candidates.

  • Step 3:

    Making a separate application to the Government of Canada for permanent resident visas.

  • Step 4:

    Medical and security examinations and issuance of permanent resident visas.

Fees

AINP Application Fee: No fee

Federal Processing Fee: C$ 550 for each person 19 years and over, C$ 550 for each child

Right of Permanent Residence Fee: C$ 490 for main applicant, C$ 490 for spouse
