The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) can nominate individual farm owner/operators who want to immigrate, purchase and manage a farming business in Alberta.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the requirements listed below to be eligible to apply under the Alberta Self-employed Farmer Stream:

  • Have farm management skills shown by proof of existing farm business, education and training.
  • Proposed farming business plan with support of a Canadian financial institution.
  • Be able to invest a minimum of C$ 500,000 in a farming business in Alberta.
  • Invest in primary production farming business in Alberta.

The Process

  • Step 1:

    Submission of a complete application to Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development.

  • Step 2:

    Following a thorough assessment, the AARD forwards the application to AINP. As part of this assessment, the applicant will be required to attend an in-person interview.

  • Step 3:

    Following a thorough assessment, the AINP nominates successful candidates.

  • Step 4:

    Making a separate application to the Government of Canada for permanent resident visas.

  • Step 5:

    Medical and security examinations and issuance of permanent resident visas.

Fees

AINP Application Fee: No fee

Federal Processing Fee: C$ 550 for each person 19 years and over, C$ 550 for each child

Right of Permanent Residence Fee: C$ 490 for main applicant, C$ 490 for spouse
