GRENADA & DOMINICA: ONE STEP CLOSER TO SCHENGEN VISA-FREE

Investors interested in the Citizenship by Investment Programmes of Grenada and Dominica, now have something to be excited about concerning travel in the Schengen countries of the EU. Please see below an excerpt from a European Council press release issued on February 6th, 2014.

“The Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) approved today, on behalf of the Council, a compromise reached with the European Parliament on a regulation amending Council Regulation 539/2001 listing the third countries whose nationals must be in possession of visas when crossing the external borders and those whose nationals are exempt from that requirement.

In order to enter into force, the draft regulation still needs to be formally approved by the European Parliament and the Council.

According to the amended regulation the nationals from… Dominica, Grenada… will be exempt from the visa requirement when travelling to the Schengen zone. This exemption will come into force only when bilateral agreements on visa waiver between the Union and the countries concerned have been concluded in order to ensure full reciprocity.”

Although this is not yet absolute, as the EU Parliament still has to pass the Regulation 539/2001 (tabled for 11 March, 2014) it is worth noting that no Coreper approved amendment has ever been reversed.
