European Union visa waiver approved for Dominican nationals
The Council of the European Union has approved visa-free travel for citizens of Dominica for a maximum period of ninety (90) days in any 180-day period.
The European Commission, headquartered in Brussels, proposed in a report dated 3 May 2015, that the Council approve, after obtaining the consent of the European Parliament, the Agreement between the European Union and Dominica on the short-stay visa waiver.
“The agreement provides for visa-free travel for the citizens of the European Union and for the citizens of Dominica when travelling to the territory of the other Contracting Party for a maximum period of 90 days in any 180-day period,” the report said.
The visa waiver covers all categories of persons (ordinary, diplomatic, service/official and special passport holders) travelling for all kinds of purposes, except for the purpose of carrying out a paid activity.
For persons carrying out paid activity, the report said, each Member State and also Dominica remain free to impose the visa requirement on the citizens of the other Party in accordance with the applicable Union or national law.
“As long as they are not part of the Schengen area without internal borders, the visa waiver confers a right for the nationals of Dominica to stay for 90 days in any 180-day on the territory of each of those Member States (Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Romania), independently of the period calculated for the whole Schengen area,” the report said.
The formal signing ceremony of the agreement of the European Union, establishing a Joint Committee for the management of the Agreement, is proposed to be held at the end of May 2015.
