NOVA SCOTIA LAUNCHES CRITICAL CONSTRUCTION WORKER PILOT PROGRAM

In an effort to address the labor needs of the construction industry and enhance its workforce, Nova Scotia has introduced the “Nova Scotia Critical Construction Worker Pilot – Job Offer Pathway.” This new program, effective from October 2023, aims to streamline the process for employers in Nova Scotia to recruit and hire foreign workers within the construction sector.

Minimum Requirements for Applicants

1. Job Offer Requirement:

  • To qualify for this program, applicants must secure a bona fide full-time job offer from a Nova Scotia employer in one of the eligible occupations listed below:

72200 Electricians (except industrial and power system)
72201 Industrial electricians
72310 Carpenters
72320 Bricklayers
72401 Heavy-duty equipment mechanics
72402 Heating, refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics
72500 Crane operators
73100 Concrete finishers
73102 Plasterers, drywall installers and finishers and lathers
73110 Roofers and shinglers
73200 Residential and commercial installers and servicers
73400 Heavy equipment operators
75101 Material handlers
75110 Construction trades helpers and labourers
75119 Other trades helpers and labourers

2- Work Experience:

Applicants should have at least 12 complete calendar months of work experience within the last five years, with a minimum of 1,560 hours related to the position and skills required for the job. Volunteer work and unpaid internships do not count as eligible work experience.

3- Age:

Applicants must fall within the age range of 21 to 55 years.

4- Language Ability:

Language proficiency is a crucial criterion. For those in occupation categories TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3, a minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in all four abilities (Writing, Reading, Listening, Speaking) in either English or French is required. If applicants are in TEER 4 or 5 occupations, CLB 4 in the same language abilities is necessary.
